The stage is set for a new era of theatre in George

The wait is over for theatre-goers of the Eden District as the Oakhurst Insurance George Arts Theatre held its grand re-opening on the 4th of November, 2017. The gala event celebrated the renovations to the theatre’s auditorium. Expert renovators took meticulous care in restoring this historical landmark to its former glory. Performers are also sure to be thrilled with the restoration of the dressing rooms and the adjacent Green Room.

“This event marked the completion of a long overdue project. The George Society of the Arts are very grateful for the huge contribution from Oakhurst to accomplish this. Be assured that many happy hours will be spent here by actors, artists and patrons alike.” Willie van Zyl – George Society of Arts Chairman

The occasion was marked with a delightful cocktail function in the foyer and a musical performance in the theatre by the Glenwood House Choir, followed by two monologues from Eisteddfod performers, Ryno Fourie and Henco Bester.

“This theatre, our George Society of Arts, the patrons of the theatre and all those who perform in our theatre, have the opportunity to put George on the map as a premium venue for live entertainment. Our magnificent location in the heart of the Garden Route is an easy drawcard, affording a great excuse for anyone and everyone to want to visit. With a top class venue for the performing arts I can see no reason why world class acts won’t be lining up to showcase their talents in our very own theatre.” Peter Grindlay – MD of Oakhurst Insurance Company Limited.
