Diversity, inclusion and equality unpacked at the GWII Leaderwalk
Gauteng Women in Insurance (GWII) hosted industry professionals at their Leaderwalk session on the 20th of March in Sandton.
Guest speakers inspired the audience as they imparted leadership lessons. First up was Roy Gluckman from Cohesion Collective, a diversity and inclusions specialist who is passionate about building our nation. Roy shared his “Die Pie” philosophy which addressed Diversity, Inclusion and Equality. He noted that inclusion is about leaders increasing the net comfort levels in their workspace to ensure their staff members are more engaged, willing to try something new and are likely to fail forward. He added that true equality is not about treating everyone in the same manner; it’s about treating different people differently.
Next up was Obenewa Amponsah, the Executive Director of Harvard University’s Centre for African Studies. Obenewa shared her framework on overcoming gender bias which included reframing the issue, listening and learning, taking deliberate action, being conscious of our actions and of what we’re communicating around this topic.
Our very own CEO, Simon Phage, joined other captains of industry in hosting a table of attendees that encouraged meaningful engagement and dialogue around diversity, inclusion and equality as well as imparting his wisdom from his experience over the decades.
